Group Effort

There’s no stopping the Eighties, not even into the new decade. Givenchy has just revealed its new ads for Spring/Summer 2010, and and one look, I was thinking Versace! I am hearing Duran Duran’s Girls on Film in my head, but I am seeing GV’s advertising from the Eighties (and Nineties too), shot by Richard Avedon. Join the dots! The bodies entwined and the graphic prints (Stephanie Seygmour & Marcus Schenkenberg from A/W 1993?) are all motifs  in the current Givenchy campaign, which is photographed by the homage-paying duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

It’s good to see models come back in a big way, indicating that brands are willing to spend on more than just one face, after last year’s marketing cutbacks. It’s also good to see clothes, lots of them.
