He’s done Hogan. He’s done Gap. He’s done Target. Now, post-The September Issue, Thakoon Panichgul is moving upwards of the fashion market; he’s going to create pearl jewellery. The Japanese firm Tasaki, the De Beers of pearls, has engaged Thakoon as their creative director. Apparently, the Chiang Rai native has always loved fine jewellery, and pearls are perfect to start with. Right now, I am not thinking Yohji Yamamoto for Mikimoto.
