Described by fans as the city’s “favourite local fashion jamboree” (Bangkok Post Blog), Elle Fashion Week is slated to open on Thursday at CentralWorld, despite persistent rumours that the event will be scraped due to uncertain economic conditions. The obligatory press conference that usually precedes this event was already called off in September, prompting members of the press to declare Elle in cost-cutting mode. Some of the regular participating designers were reported to be considering opting out as business has been dismal.
Would a scaled-down Elle Fashion Week, then, be any good? Expecting much would be, well, expecting much.
